Why El Nahual?

El Nahual is highly recommended for those students who have a strong interest in social exclusion and the effects that this can have on marginalised communities in Guatemala. By joining the community at El Nahual, students have the first-hand experience of integrating into one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala's second largest city. Our center is not situated in the cosmopolitan center of Quetzaltenango but in the center of the community where our projects take place. Whilst learning Spanish is most likely the principal motive for coming to El Nahual, our students are also highly motivated to get involved in our projects on a part-time basis in line with their own particular interests and talents.

Whilst other Spanish schools offer the opportunity to participate in projects to which they have formed relationships, at El Nahual, students work on projects that the center directly designs, administrates and funds. For the majority of our students, it is both unique and rewarding to work on the projects that they themselves make possible through their choice to study at El Nahual.
