It´s been a special week at El Nahual as we gear up for the holidays! With a mere 24 hours of planning, our Christmas party for the niños went off flawlessly on Tuesday. Games, snacks (thanks Pati!) and music blasting from the salon all afternoon—good times! Even Santa Claus made an appearance to give everyone candy and new pencils so they won´t keep having to borrow ours. Pictures to be posted soon!
In just a few short weeks we will be moving into our new building just down the street (you know, behind that huge rock that says ¨Bienvenidos a las tunas¨…nobody knows what it means). We are super excited to have our own space and are looking forward to painting and decking the halls with some quality Manos de Colores artwork. We´ve also got two great volunteers who are going to help us transplant all the veggies from our organic community garden´s current site to the plot of land by our new building.
In the past weeks we´ve said goodbye to some long-term volunteers and we´d like to say a big THANK YOU to Eleni and Tom! Eleni is back in New York and Tom in the Garden State for the holidays before heading back out on the road to explore some more of Central America. They both did fantastic work with the kiddos at La Cuchilla, during our multiple Dia del Niños-es, and were generally a lot of fun to have around. Thanks for the finca coffee, the book lending, the awful caldo des frutas, the salsa, and so much more!
The center will be closed for the holiday weekend starting tomorrow, so we wish everyone a very happy Christmas. Drink, eat, make merry, and enjoy time with friends and family!
Besos from the coordinadoras,
