First of all, let me proudly announce that our garden has arrived! On Friday´s lunch we enjoyed a delicious raddish salad made from our very own home grown raddishes!!
After lunch we ended the day with the elaborate construction of Mother´s Day cards from all of the children here at Manos de Colores. They enthusiastically cut hearts and drew roses and glued flowers as I watched in awe. While completing the cards they were also able to practice their letter writing as last week we introduced the concept of pen pals. We introduced the formation of a letter, and the kids brainstormed questions to ask of their new friends in the States.
Since our pen pals will be of the email variety, we will be introducing computer concepts and letting the kids take turns practicing their typing. Last week the first two kids began, and one completed an entire email in English! Next week we will continue until all of the kids have a chance to practice email correspondence and will hopefully do this once a month.
In the meantime they are all excelling in the letters containing construction paper and glue! I even learned some tips for my card. (: PS. Happy Mother´s Day Mom!!
