Dear Friends and Family of El Nahual,
All of us at El Nahual would like to say thank you ever so much for your thoughts and concerns after all that has happened here in Guatemala over the past few weeks. We are also very happy to announce that all of us volunteers, the school, and the families that we work with, are all safe here after the storm.
Unfortunately there was flooding in some parts of Xela which led to roads being closed and travel being postponed for a few days. Schools throughout Guatemala are also suspended for the week as some were affected by the weather, and others have sent teachers to help the families evacuate, and repair any damage to their homes.
Fortunately, as the sunshine returned on Sunday we have been able to hold Manos here every day. Yesterday was a beautiful day as we had new kids arrive and everyone played together outside. The sky was clear and the mountains even brighter than usual after the heavy rain.
The public schools should start again next week, and travel has also opened back up to and from Xela. Also great news; the airport reopened yesterday afternoon so our new volunteers can now make their scheduled flights!
Overall we feel very lucky and thankful to have been kept so dry and almost unnaffected by the storm. As other parts of Guatemala have been severely affected we would ask you to please keep the people here in your thoughts and prayers. We thank you ever so much, and hope you are all well at home!
