The rainy season has come to Guatemala and some of you may think that we have many reasons to complain: clouds that cover Santa María volcano and don´t let the sun shine, raincoats that we have to put on every afternoon, wet shoes... Nothing further from the truth! We have many reasons to celebrate every single day at El Nahual!
The last weeks were quite hard for the students of four schools where we teach English because of the tests they had to write. Now, when they already know the results, they will be able to work on some of the issues that are still missing and improve their language skills. We wish them good luck! All the volunteers did a really great job correcting and grading the tests and explaining to the students the mistakes they made. Thank you to all of you!!!
We are also very proud of the new painting that has appeared recently on one of the walls of our community center. Thanks to one of our volunnteers Kim who decided to work with kids from Manos de Colores and create that very special piece of art. The first thing that every person who passes through the door of the school notices is a green quetzal (Guatemala´s national bird) that soars over the volcano full of lava, two beautiful monjas blancas (white orchids, national flowers), the goddess of corn that sits under the ceiba tree and the mayan woman playing the marimba. WELCOME TO EL NAHUAL! If you are curious about that unusual painting, you are very welcome to visit our photo gallery.
The other reason why we are very happy is the fact that we managed to create our organic garden during quite a short time, just a couple of months. Now we can take care of the carrots, lettuce, green beans and many many more delicious veggies. And the rainy season helps us a lot; we don´t have to water them :).
More sunny news: Agi just joined our team as new Program and Development Coordinator. She already made a good impression on everyone with her kindness, openness and perfect Spanish. Welcome on board!
