El Nahual Community Center seeks enthusiastic students and volunteers who are motivated to give back to low-income communities in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala´s second largest city. We attract students from all over the world who want to do something meaningful during their travels. Our center is unique in that 100% of the profits from our language school return directly to the communities we serve through our educational programs for children and adults. To that end, we expect a minimum time commitment of volunteer work 4 hours per week from each of our students. The majority of our volunteer projects are educational and involve teaching basic English, arts and crafts, and doing other activities with children in our Manos de Colores programs. Studying Spanish at El Nahual provides students with invaluable international teaching experience while introducing them to grassroots development work and the opportunity to reach out to some of the poorest communities in Quetzaltenango.
All of our volunteer programs are designed, administered and funded by El Nahual. Many students find this aspect of El Nahual very rewarding, as it offers them the opporunitity to work on projects made possible through their choice to study at El Nahual. Because El Nahual is not located within the cosmopolitan city center of Quetzaltenango, our students are able to intensively study and practice their Spanish in an environment more representative of Guatemala than what is available at other language schools. Through our volunteer projects and homestay program, students are able to meet and interact with the local population in a manner often out of reach to most foreigners, all while helping support an organization well-known and highly regarded by the surrounding community.
Choosing to study at El Nahual is an unforgettable experience. Visit the Testimonials section to hear what some of our former students have to say about us, contact us if you have any further questions, or download an application today!
